Over the past few years, I’ve trained my mind to shift focus. Whenever I do something, I don’t think about success or failure. I simply ask myself: how can I help people!
I’m Syed Nadeem, founder of FBPToday, host of The Career Connect Podcast, and a finance professional with 20+ years of experience across corporate finance, leadership, and business partnering.
But my journey into finance did not start with passion.
In the beginning, I was not naturally passionate about finance. My father was the one who believed in this path for me long before I did.
Since I was in Grade 10, he kept encouraging me to pursue CMA. At that time, I did not fully understand why he was pushing me toward it, but he believed it would shape my future.
Years later, when I finally passed my CMA qualification, it became one of the most emotional moments of my life.
But even today, I feel deeply grateful that he was alive to witness that achievement. Seeing his happiness and pride in that moment is something I will carry with me forever.
For years after that, I believed that working hard was enough. I studied hard, built technical skills, prepared reports, and delivered numbers. But despite all of that, I still felt invisible in important business conversations.
I remember sitting in meetings with senior leaders, presenting reports that took days to prepare… yet the room felt disconnected.
People could already see the numbers on the screen. What they needed was not another explanation of the report. They needed insight, direction, confidence, and business thinking.
That realization changed everything for me.
In 2021, I went through one of the most difficult phases of my career. I lost my job and suddenly had 60 days to either find a new opportunity or leave the country.
Like many professionals, I thought sending more applications would solve the problem. It didn’t.
My CV was being ignored despite years of experience and qualifications. That period forced me to rethink everything — not just about careers, but about value, visibility, communication, and influence.
During that difficult phase, I made a decision that changed my life.
Instead of sitting quietly and waiting for opportunities, I decided to start helping people.
I created a simple flyer on social media offering 30-minute free coaching sessions for finance professionals.
At that time, I had no business model, no academy, and no roadmap. I simply wanted to support people using the experience and lessons I had learned throughout my own career.
People started joining those sessions. They shared their fears, frustrations, and career struggles. Slowly, testimonials started spreading. Then more people joined.
More conversations. More trust. More impact.
Over the next 3 years, I conducted more than 300 free coaching sessions for finance professionals around the world.
Those sessions became much bigger than coaching for me. They helped me understand the real struggles finance professionals face — feeling invisible, lacking confidence in meetings, struggling to communicate with business leaders, and not knowing how to move from reporting numbers to influencing decisions.
That belief eventually became the foundation of FBPToday.
I created FBPToday to help finance professionals move beyond reporting and become trusted business partners who influence decisions and create real business impact.
Today, through programs, workshops, coaching, podcasts, and community initiatives, my mission is to help professionals develop the skills that traditional finance education rarely teaches — influence, communication, stakeholder management, leadership, business thinking, and confidence in the room.
And if you have ever felt technically capable… but unheard in the room…
I built this for you.
